Blello has no centre: it is made of three small settlements — Brevieno, Ghisalerio and Blello — and of scattered farmsteads, held together only by the parish church, built in the eighteenth century on top of Monte Faggio. The name comes from a person, a certain Bellelo, and for centuries people here lived on what the woods gave: shepherds, woodcutters and charcoal burners.
The history of this village is the history of what did not happen. During the struggles between Guelphs and Ghibellines the inhabitants, like those of nearby Gerosa, kept out of every dispute, and isolation protected them: there were no clashes here and no reprisals, and indeed people fleeing the neighbouring villages came to hide here. Then, in the twentieth century, emigration made it the least populous comune in the province of Bergamo.
