Feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle
📅 Every year, on 30 November
On 30 November Bracca celebrates its patron Saint Andrew the Apostle, to whom a church in the municipal territory is dedicated.
The name seems to come from a certain Braccus, in the days when the val Serina lay under the municipium of Bergamo. Bracca is the first village you meet climbing the val Serina from the val Brembana, and it stood on the road that led to the via Mercatorum: for that reason, even without notable clashes between Guelphs and Ghibellines, it was given towers and fortifications, of which some ruins remain at Botta.
The coat of arms says two things you can eat and drink: a vine branch with black grapes, for the local produce, and a spring. The spring is the mineral water that carries the village's name across Italy, and the motto on the arms underlines it. The parish church of Sant'Andrea is of 1857, consecrated in 1872, and took the place of a church that already appears in 1360 in the list of the churches of the diocese of Bergamo; a fifteenth-century silver chalice survives from it. At Cornalta the parish church of San Bartolomeo keeps a painting by Carlo Ceresa.
