The name Lurago comes from the Latin Lauriacum, and that of the hamlet Calpuno from the gens Calpurnia, the family said to descend from Calpus, son of king Numa Pompilius. The village is first mentioned in a will of 879, where a certain Grasberto de Laurico appears. Calpuno long had a history of its own: until 1753 it was a small independent comune, free of the Duchy of Milan and of any feudal lord at all, which in these parts was rather rare.
The village took the d'Erba in 1863, so as not to be confused with the other Lurago, which then became Lurago Marinone. In 1967 it gave up the hamlet of Cadea to Lambrugo, and it is with Lambrugo that it recently tried to merge: the first steps were taken in 2025, but the plan stopped because, while the yes was winning at Lurago, on the other side the no prevailed. Three families live together on the coat of arms: the indented line comes from the Bentivoglio, the tower from the Giussani, the lion from the Sormani and the Balbiani.
