Dosso del Liro

Province: Como · Region: Lombardy · Population: 275 · Postal code: 22010

In 1577 a confraternity of men from Dosso who had emigrated to Palermo and survived the plague sent home a votive canvas: it still hangs in the church of San Pietro in Costa, together with the frescoes that Giovanni Antonio De Lagaia finished on 8 December 1532. The emigration to Sicily lasted centuries, and can still be heard in the way these valleys speak.

Precisely for that reason, in 2007, the village opened the Museum of Dialect of the Upper Lario: a museum made of sounds, keeping recordings of conversations, proverbs and sayings, with a few objects only to illustrate the words of trades that no longer exist. In the territory of Dosso, on 4 August 1806, the brigand Vincenzo Pacchiana was killed by a traitor.
