On the fourteenth of November 2010 the three municipalities of Gravedona, Consiglio di Rumo and Germasino voted in a consultative referendum on merging, and in the two largest, Gravedona and Consiglio di Rumo, the no prevailed. The merger went ahead anyway: a regional law of the tenth of February 2011 established the municipality of Gravedona ed Uniti, which has existed since the following day. The first elections were held on the sixteenth and seventeenth of May. The chosen name, with that «ed Uniti» — and united — which names neither of the two smaller villages, is an old administrative formula applied to a union that two thirds of the voters had not wanted.
Four thousand two hundred and nine inhabitants in the province of Como, on the upper lake. The crosses on the coat of arms, inherited from that of the old municipality of Gravedona, recall its historic membership of the Tre Pievi together with Sorico and Dongo. In the town, above the harbour, stands the four-towered palace that Pellegrino Tibaldi built in 1586 for the Milanese cardinal Tolomeo Gallio; beside the church of San Vincenzo rises the Romanesque baptistery of Santa Maria del Tiglio, which holds two Christian inscriptions of the fifth century. Alessandro Volta spent his honeymoon here, in a villa granted to him by the noble Stampa family.
