In the Como statutes of 1335 Livo appears because of an obligation: together with Vercana it had to keep in repair a stretch of the Via Regina, the road that ran along the lake. The village has kept its old shape, with rural stone houses and, on many fronts along the main street, votive frescoes of the fifteen hundreds; the doorways are carved and bear the arms of the families who lived behind them. At Dangri a stone bridge crosses the Livo torrent.
There are two churches of San Giacomo, and they have handed the title back and forth: the older one stands higher up, near the cemetery, and became the parish church in 1446; the other, in the middle of the village, is seventeenth-century and took over later. Along the mule track that climbs towards Baggio stands instead the church of Sant'Anna, finished in 1720 and built expressly to shelter a fresco of the Virgin and Child that stood in a wayside chapel and was held to be miraculous. From 1928 to 1950 Livo did not exist as a municipality: it had been merged into Domaso together with Vercana.
