Saint Abundius, patron of Limido Comasco
📅 Every year, on the first Sunday of September
Limido Comasco celebrates Saint Abundius on the first Sunday of September, in the church dedicated to him.
The village's old church was dedicated to Saint Abbondio, who is the patron of Como: a dedication with no parallel in the diocese of Milan, to which Limido has always belonged. It is precisely this discord that is used as an argument for the settlement being far older than the diocesan boundaries that now contain it, and going back to when the Po plain was turning Christian and the old places of worship were being replaced by churches.
Three thousand seven hundred and ninety-three inhabitants in the province of Como, on a strip of plain at the edge of the hills — and that is said to be where the name comes from, the Latin limes, boundary. The answers to the census of 1751 photograph the village: 368 souls in all, enfeoffed to count Carlo Litta, to whom, however, the community paid no contribution of any kind; the officers were the consul, the mayor and the chancellor, and a single collector, publicly elected, gathered the dues and paid the expenses. The full name dates from 1911: before that it was simply Limido.
