The territory of this municipality was, until the Risorgimento, divided into seven communes: Castelfranco d'Oglio, Drizzona, Piadena, Pontirolo Capredoni, San Lorenzo Guazzone, San Paolo Ripa d'Oglio and Vho, and all but Pontirolo had their own parish. A hundred and fifty years of amalgamation reduced them to two, and on the first of January 2019 those two became one as well. The difference, this time, is that they were asked: the referendum of the twenty-fourth of June 2018 saw those in favour prevail in both municipalities, which also chose the name, Piadena Drizzona.
Four thousand one hundred and thirty-two inhabitants in the province of Cremona, on the plain. Before merging, the two villages had already tried living together: since 2009 there had been a union of municipalities with its own statute, dissolved on the twenty-eighth of December 2018 on the eve of the new commune's birth. Piadena is a railway junction of some weight, because the Brescia-Parma and the Cremona-Mantua lines cross there, and the old Padana Inferiore road runs through it too. The economy is still agricultural, with some food and metal industry; Piadena has the archaeological museum.
