Ripalta Cremasca

Province: Cremona · Region: Lombardy · Population: 3,394 · Postal code: 26010

There are too many Ripaltas in the Crema country, and dialect has had to tell them apart by nicknames. This one is the Riultélina Grasa, the fat one; Ripalta Vecchia, today the only hamlet of Madignano, is the Riólta Magra, the lean one; neighbouring Ripalta Guerina is simply the Riultelina. Then there is Ripalta Arpina and, inside this same municipality, Ripalta Nuova, which is its seat although it does not give the body its name: Ripalta Cremasca is a scattered municipality and the town hall stands there.

In 1928 Ripalta Guerina was suppressed and joined to Ripalta Cremasca, but in 1955 it regained its autonomy and today has just over five hundred inhabitants: two Ripaltas separated by a boundary and a vowel. The municipality has three thousand three hundred and ninety-four, in the province of Cremona, in the plain south of Crema between the Serio and the irrigation channels. Through it runs the Cremasca provincial road, the old route linking Bergamo to Codogno.
