Capergnanica

Province: Cremona · Region: Lombardy · Population: 2,095 · Postal code: 26010

The coat of arms of Capergnanica, granted in 1957, is a crossroads: four roads meeting on a red field, with two crossed sabres above them. And the village really is a crossroads of the Crema countryside: through it run the road that comes down from Crema towards Casaletto Ceredano and the one that arrives from Chieve. In 2005, though, the stretch beyond the village towards Casaletto was downgraded: the road is still there, but it is no longer a provincial one.

The boundaries of the comune have moved about a good deal too. In the Napoleonic period Bolzone and Chieve were attached to Capergnanica, and left again with the Lombardo-Venetian Kingdom; then, by a royal decree of 2 May 1869, Passarera arrived, and that one stayed: it is still today the comune's only hamlet.
