Feast of Saints Quiricus and Julitta and of Saint Blaise
📅 Every year, on 3 February
On 3 February, the day of Saint Blaise, Suello celebrates its patrons Saints Quiricus and Julitta and Saint Blaise, after whom the town's church is named.
The same merger was carried out here twice, a century apart, and undone twice. From 1809 to 1816, by decree of Napoleon, Suello and Cesana Brianza were a single comune; from 1927 to 1955 the measure was repeated exactly, and the comune born of the two was called Cesello Brianza, a name made of half a name each. Then each went back to its own way, and since then nobody has tried again.
The village's name, on the other hand, is a person's: Suillis, a Roman colonist who had a farm along the road between Bergomum and Comum, that is between Bergamo and Como — and that is still the road that passes through here, at the foot of Monte Cornizzolo, between the lake of Annone and that of Pusiano. On the coat of arms, of 1960, there are a silkworm cocoon and bees: the cocoon for the silkworm rearing and spinning that made the local economy in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the bees for industriousness. The new parish church of San Biagio is of the nineteen-thirties and was consecrated by archbishop Schuster.
