Before 1 January 2018 this comune did not exist: on that day it was made out of three villages of the same valley, Introzzo, Tremenico and Vestreno, and it took its name from the torrent that runs through them all, the Varrone. The decision was taken by voting: on 22 October 2017, together with the regional referendum, the question was put to the three villages, and nine voters out of ten said yes. It is a comune sparso, that is, one without a proper main village: the houses stand along the road that runs from east to west touching Avano, Tremenico, Introzzo and Vestreno.
In the southern part two cableways still hang, climbing from the provincial road up to the place called Lentrèe: they were used to bring down the feldspar dug up there. The valley keeps the memory of that work in two museums, one at Tremenico called Cantar di Pietra, the singing of stone, and an ecomuseum at Introzzo. Above everything stands Monte Legnoncino, a little over one thousand seven hundred metres, on the border with Sueglio; and among the churches of the four settlements there is the sanctuary of the Beata Vergine di Bondo, at Vestreno.
