A tradition has it that the four villages of this shore — Dorio, Corenno, Dervio and Piona — were born of the Greek colonists Caesar sent to Como fifty-nine years before Christ, and that the names come from Dorio in Messenia, from Corinth, from Delphi and from Peonia. There are no excavations to prove it, and the source says as much.
In 1506 the people of Dorio obtained a parish of their own because the road to Dervio was in such a state that newborns could not be carried to baptism; the tithe due to the clergy of Dervio, on the other hand, stayed in force into the twentieth century. In 1627, with the Landsknechts, came the plague of The Betrothed: from about three hundred inhabitants the village went down to eighty-four, in thirty-six families.
