Feast of Saint Andrew
📅 Every year, on 30 November
On 30 November Crespiatica celebrates its patron Saint Andrew; the town preserves Villa Cavezzali Gabba.
On the arms of Crespiatica, below the cross of Saint Andrew, there is a fish: a silver chub, caveśal in the local dialect. It stands there for the hamlet of Tormo and for the first lords of the place, the Cavezzali Gabba: the fish is on the shield because it sounds like their surname, not because anyone fished here. At Tormo the neoclassical villa Cavezzali Gabba is still standing, and the village took the hamlet in in 1879.
For the rest, Crespiatica is a village of other people's borders: its territory drives a wedge into the province of Cremona, and from the twelfth to the fifteenth century the settlement belonged to the bishop of Pavia, before passing in 1652 to Francesco del Maino; Tormo, on the other hand, had belonged to the county of Treviglio, then to Milan, then to Guido della Torre. One thing, though, sets it apart from its neighbours: here there has been almost no depopulation, and those who work, work in the village.
