For a whole year this municipality was called Palazzo Pugnano. That was the official name adopted in 1862, when it needed to be told apart from the other Palazzos of Italy; the following year it was corrected to Palazzo Pignano, and so it has stayed. The village has always had a difficult relationship with its own continuity: its history is marked by two destructions, one around 951 and one towards the middle of the eleventh century, and the rebuilding came only in 1155.
Three thousand eight hundred and forty-eight inhabitants in the province of Cremona. Beneath the main church of the village lies the old pieve, a building going back to the fourth century: excavations have shown that people were living here already in the fifth, and some connect it all to the Roman town of Parasso, a fourth-century Christian settlement from which the name too is said to come. On the municipal arms are a mitre and a crozier, because the territory depended on the bishop-count of Crema. In 1929 the suppressed municipalities of Cascine Gandini and Scannabue were joined to it.
