Feast of Saint Gaudentius
📅 Every year, on 22 January
On 22 January Secugnago celebrates its patron Saint Gaudentius of Novara, to whom the town's church is dedicated; the town also has Villa Rossi-Cerri.
For centuries the via Emilia ran through Secugnago: the road that links Lodi to Milan on one side and to Piacenza on the other cut the village in two. Then, in 1972, a bypass was opened to traffic, and the village found itself beside the road instead of on it.
With the railway it had gone much the same way, only more sharply: the Milan-Bologna line, opened in 1861, has its stop a kilometre west of the built-up area, towards Brembio. Around the station, over the years, a few houses and businesses have grown up, still separated from the rest of Secugnago by open country: two pieces of the same village looking at each other from a distance. In between there are the fields, and in the village the church of San Gaudenzio.
