For forty years the Alfa Romeos rolled out of here: the Arese plant, active from 1963, built the Giulia, Alfetta and 33, becoming one of the sacred names of Italian carmaking. That history is now on display: the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum — "The Time Machine", rearranged in 2015 — lines up the 33 Stradale, Formula 1 single-seaters and seventy years of style, a place of pilgrimage for petrolheads across half the world.
The municipality of 19,138 northwest of Milan has turned the page on its industrial site, now home to one of Europe's largest shopping centres. But to anyone who loves engines, Arese means one thing only: the Biscione badge.
