The global supply of chewing gum owes a massive debt to this municipality of 25,054 people, home to the headquarters of confectionery giant Perfetti Van Melle. Long before industrial sweets defined the local economy, the Visconti Borromeo Arese family shaped the landscape by constructing a sprawling, Medici-inspired villa in the 1500s.
Today, Villa Litta stands as the premier historical draw, renowned for its elaborate 17th-century nymphaeum. Located 15 kilometers northwest of Milan, the town also provides an unexpected green escape. The shaded trails alongside the Villoresi Canal are highly recommended for a morning run or a quiet walk through the woods.
