Bubbiano

Province: Milan · Region: Lombardy · Population: 2,215 · Postal code: 20080

Bubbiano first appears in a document of 1160, when the abbey of Morimondo exchanged some land: a small farming village that all the same, in that very century, gave itself consuls and governed itself. Then came the emperors, in the war against the towns of the Lombard League — Barbarossa first, later his grandson Frederick II — and the village ended up a fief of the Molinari family.

The self-rule won so early is precisely what Bubbiano had taken away from it more than once: in 1751 the village counted barely three hundred inhabitants, and under Napoleon it was wiped off the map twice in two years, annexed to Calvignasco in 1809 and to Casorate in 1811, before becoming a comune again. The coat of arms granted in 1952 tells the rest: two blue bands for the Ticinello and the Naviglio di Bereguardo, a sheaf of ears for the fields.
