Albuzzano, Barona and Vigalfo had the same master for almost four centuries and became a single municipality only long after that master had gone. In 1431 all three were enfeoffed to the Barbiano, within the county and later principality of Belgioioso, and there they stayed until the end of feudalism in 1797. The administrative union came in 1872, seventy-five years later: Barona and Vigalfo were joined to Albuzzano, which in the eighteenth century had already taken in Alperolo and Torre d'Astari, two villages that had never belonged to the fief of Albuzzano.

The name appears in the twelfth century as Albuciano; in the early Middle Ages the land belonged to the monastery of San Salvatore in Pavia, then in the fourteenth century it passed to the Beccaria. In 1576 the inhabitants were three hundred, two centuries later they had passed a thousand, and today they are three thousand three hundred and fifty-five, in the province of Pavia, on the right bank of the Olona, in the plain the old documents called Campagna Sottana.
