Ceranova

Province: Pavia · Region: Lombardy · Population: 1,894 · Postal code: 27010

In the Middle Ages it was called Cella Nova, the new cell, and that is how it appears from the twelfth century onwards; it belonged to the Campagna Sottana of Pavia, and passed in fief to the Panigarola in 1622 and to the marquises Cavalli in 1741.

Its more recent history, on the other hand, is a two-handed game with the neighbouring village. In 1929 Ceranova was suppressed and united to Lardirago; it became a comune again in 1947, and in 1963 it took the hamlet of Gioiello, detaching it from Lardirago itself. In little more than thirty years, in short, it was first swallowed and then took back what it had lost, with interest. Today it lies in the plain on the left of the Olona, a quarter of an hour from Pavia.
