Two hamlets of this municipality are called Porta Pescarina and Due Porte, the Two Gates, and those gates have been gone for centuries: they were the entrances in the wall that enclosed the Visconti Park, the hunting reserve that Gian Galeazzo Visconti had laid out from the castle of Pavia as far as the Certosa. To make it, his father Galeazzo II had already expropriated from the Sisti family the castle they had held at San Genesio since at least 1326 and their farmland; in the thirteen-seventies the castle was demolished. When the Sforza fell the park decayed, but its perimeter survived as an administrative district under the name of Parco Nuovo.

Three thousand seven hundred and eighty-eight inhabitants in the province of Pavia, north of the city, between the Olona and the Vernavola ditch. On these lands, in 1525, the battle of Pavia was fought. The municipality's name has lengthened by accumulation: in 1871 the suppressed municipalities of Comairano and Pontecarate were joined to it, and from that in 1929 came the addition ed Uniti; in 1939 part of the suppressed municipality of Mirabello arrived as well. In 1949, during farm work at Groppetto, gold and silver coins and goldsmith's work of late Roman date came to light.
