In the Pavia tax rolls of 1250 the place is the house of the Scanati, and then their tower. From the fourteenth century it belonged to the Negri of Pavia, who took from it the name Negri della Torre; a deed of the end of that century still calls it the tower of those Scanati, and only by 1452 is it written Torre de' Negri. The family gave the place its name after having taken its own from the place.
The Negri della Torre got the fief at the end of the seventeenth century and the title of counts a few years later. In 1929 the comune was abolished and joined to Belgioioso, and it was made again in 1947. It stands in the southern Pavese, on the edge of the terrace above the valley of the Po.
