Rasura

Province: Sondrio · Region: Lombardy · Population: 292 · Postal code: 23010

The Dosso mill, on the stream that divides Rasura from Cosio, was built in 1836 by Giacomo Pezzini and ground flour for polenta and bread until 1964, from father to son. In 1998 Serafino Vaninetti restored it and put a museum inside, which carries his own name shortened: Vanseraf.

For a village of not even three hundred people there are two more museums, one ethnographic and one of the mountain. Rasura stands at eight hundred metres in the valley of the Bitto di Gerola, where the cheese is still made up on the pastures, in the huts called calecc; and in the houses they weave the pezzotto, the Valtellina rug made of strips of salvaged cloth, in stripes of strong colours.
