On 22 September Cassano Magnago celebrates Saint Maurice; the municipality also preserves the church of Santa Maria del Cerro.
Between Gallarate and Busto Arsizio, in the manufacturing heart of the Varese area, Cassano Magnago is a city of 21,386 that grew with the textile and light industry of the Olona valley. The town hall occupies Villa Oliva, a historic residence whose grounds now serve as the public park.
Dialect speakers call it Cassan Magnagh, and the double name — recorded for the municipality since the late thirteenth century — has always set it apart from Italy's several other Cassanos.
