In the church of Sant'Eustachio hangs a polyptych that Giovanni Boccati signed and dated 1468: nearly five metres high, with thirty-five painted panels, the names of those who paid for it written on two scrolls, and the painter's own signature on the step at the foot of the Virgin's throne. Beside the church stands a bell tower shaped like a cone: an inscription says it was rebuilt in 1741 after being struck by lightning and by an earthquake.
The name means simply «fine fortress»; the castle belonged to Camerino until 1255, when it allied with Tolentino and gave itself to that city. In 1479 the community built a church to San Sebastiano against the plague. Today, in this village of fewer than two thousand people, a firm makes espresso coffee machines and sends them all over the world.
