Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua
📅 Every year, on 13 June
On 13 June Carpegna, a municipality of 1,670 inhabitants in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, celebrates its patron Saint Anthony of Padua; in August the «Cultura d'Estate» festival is held.
In the modern age the counts of Carpegna made themselves a new family tree: their founder was to have been a lieutenant of Caesar, or else a barbarian general rewarded by Odoacer in 466 with the mountain that would take his name. There was even a bull of Otto I of 962 confirming it all: it was written by Alfonso Ceccarelli of Bevagna, a forger by trade.
The lands of the Carpegna were imperial fiefs, that is, all but independent of everybody, and so they stayed until 1819. On the tenth of June 1749 a hundred and eight Tuscan soldiers invaded them, because the Grand Duke was claiming an old agreement with Florence; a diplomatic affair followed, with France, Spain and Sardinia on the other side, and in 1754 the troops went home.
