Riccia celebrates Mary Most Holy of Mount Carmel on 16 July; on the Sunday before 7 July the venerated statue is carried in procession from the sanctuary next to the cemetery to the larger mother church of Santa Maria Assunta, and the town is so devoted to Mary that every one of its churches bears her name.

The patroness of Riccia is Mary Most Holy of Mount Carmel, celebrated on 16 July with a long, solemn procession winding through the town's main streets, joined even by emigrants from Riccia. On the Sunday before 7 July, the venerated statue of the Madonna is carried in procession from her sanctuary, next to the cemetery, to the mother church of Santa Maria Assunta, larger and better suited to hosting the faithful during the novena dedicated to her.

The church of the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel, octagonal in plan and Baroque in period, with a 19th-century portal restored in 1875, holds a wooden triptych depicting the Madonna with the prophets Elijah and Elisha and, below, Saint John the Baptist, Saint Michael and Saint Albert; also worth admiring are two Renaissance arches from the earlier church. Riccia is an entirely Marian town: all its churches bear the Virgin's name, under her various titles, from the Assumed to the Immaculate, from the Annunciate to the Rosary, to Mount Carmel. The mother church of Santa Maria Assunta dates from the 13th century and still holds the pointed-arch Gothic portal, with acanthus-leaf ornaments on the capitals and lions on corbels, as well as the 15th-century coats of arms of Bartolomeo de Capoa and Aurelia Orsini and the «Dormitio Virginis», a fresco by Silvestro Buono, a pupil of Antonio Solario «lo Zingaro», datable to around 1480.
