Roccavivara

Province: Campobasso · Region: Molise · Population: 840 · Postal code: 86020

At the feast of San Rocco a cockerel used to be put down a manhole with only its head out, and a blindfolded man tried to strike it with a rod in front of everyone. After years of protests the cockerel, for some time now, has been made of plaster.

Down towards the Trigno, among the reed beds, stands Santa Maria di Canneto: in 706 duke Gisulf of Benevento gave it to the Benedictines of San Vincenzo al Volturno. Inside is an ambo of 1223 with six monks carved in its niches, one for each gesture of the ora et labora, and in the middle the place where an eagle stood as a lectern. The bell tower is from 1329. The village has 840 residents.
