The patron saint of Civitanova del Sannio is Saint Bernardine of Siena, celebrated on 20 May with the town's patronal feast.
The Molise town also venerates the relics of Saint Felix the martyr: according to parish tradition, they arrived in Civitanova on 9 June 1779, initially placed in the chapel of the baronial palace and venerated by the population, which at that time numbered 2,179 inhabitants. The relics, held in a precious silver reliquary, are celebrated every year from 28 to 30 August: in 1879, Duke d'Alessandro, despite the economic difficulties of the time, chose to sponsor the celebrations for the first centenary of this feast.
Over the centuries the fief of Civitanova belonged to several noble families, including the Eboli and, from the 17th century, the d'Alessandro of Pescolanciano: under the lordship of Donna Aurelia, the territory was repeatedly attacked by a band of seven hundred raiders led by the bandit Marco Sciarra, who was defeated by citizen volunteers and baronial soldiers led by the commoner Carlo Russo.
