Pescolanciano

Province: Isernia · Region: Molise · Population: 878 · Postal code: 86097

The drove road that ran from Castel di Sangro to Lucera passes through the village, and outside it has stayed what it was: a grass path as wide as a road. Above, on a spur at the foot of Monte Totila, stands the castle of the D'Alessandro, with its drawbridge finished in 1691 and a chapel where since 1673 the body of a Roman martyr, Sant'Alessandro, has lain.

Around 1645 baron Giovanni began breeding jumping horses here, a strain picked for the knights of the Kingdom of Naples. Cold is at home in the place: on 15 February 2012, on the edge of the village, the thermometer read twenty-five below zero. There are 878 residents.

Saint Anne and the sheaf parade, born from the 1805 earthquake

📅 Every year, on 25 and 26 July, with the sheaf parade

Pescolanciano celebrates Saint Anne on 25 and 26 July; the rite of the «sheaf parade», at sunset on 25 July, was born as thanksgiving to the saint from the survivors of the great earthquake of 1805, which also badly struck the D'Alessandro castle.
