Feast of Saint Marcian
📅 Every year, on 3 June
On 3 June Alfiano Natta, a municipality of 754 inhabitants in the province of Alessandria, celebrates its patron Saint Marcian, to whom the parish church is dedicated.
The name joins two things: Alfiano comes from the Roman estate name Alfius, while Natta is the family from Asti that held the village in fief from 1531 and kept it until the last century. The town arms copy the Natta's: three red bands on silver, crossed by a green cork oak with six branches and purple acorns.
Ruins of the castle stand on the hill above. The seventeenth-century church of San Marziano, in bare brick, the saint in a niche on the gable, holds frescoes by Guglielmo Caccia signed by the painter and his daughters, also painters; at Cardona, beside the church of Sant'Eusebio, two Roman busts are set in the wall.
