Feast of San Remigio
📅 Every year, on 1 October
On 1 October Villadeati, a municipality of 523 inhabitants in the province of Alessandria, celebrates its patron San Remigio (Saint Remigius).
Villadeati takes its name from the Deati, who held the territory in fief in the fourteenth century; the first document naming De Villa De Deatis is from 1431. It long belonged to the Asti area as Corte dei Scataldeis, then joined a military system of two castles above the Stura and Versa valleys.
Nothing remains of the old castle, destroyed in the Monferrato wars; in the late eighteenth century a building in Juvarra's manner rose above the village, with four sets of terraces and galleries following the slope. It belongs to the Feltrinelli family. The comune holds a silver medal for civil valour for the Nazi reprisal of October 1944.
