Frinco

Province: Asti · Region: Piedmont · Population: 731 · Postal code: 14030

Frinco stands on the hills of the Astesana, near the Versa stream. The first documents naming it date from 1177. From the mid-thirteenth century it belonged to the Pelletta, bankers of Asti, who passed it to another Asti banking family, the Turco: for close to a century Frinco was a matter for financiers rather than men at arms. In 1438 it was declared an imperial fief.

The castle, medieval in origin, is a block of brick with a cylindrical tower at one corner and shutters at the windows; a long low outbuilding stands beside it, and the meadow in front shows the walls to their full height.
