Bosio

Province: Alessandria · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,240 · Postal code: 15060

Bosio is the only municipality in Piedmont that borders Genoa, along the Apennine ridge dividing the upper Stura from the Leira: the closest Piedmont gets to the sea. The land belonged to Liguria and passed to Piedmont under the Rattazzi decree; the municipality was created only in 1948, detaching five hamlets from Parodi Ligure.

In the spring of 1944 the Benedicta monastery, towards Monte Tobbio, served as the partisans' headquarters: on 7 April German and fascist forces surrounded the area, shot ninety-seven people and blew up the farmstead. The town holds the war cross for military valour. The parish church of Santi Pietro e Marziano has a yellow front and a rose window.
