Parodi Ligure

Province: Alessandria · Region: Piedmont · Population: 710 · Postal code: 15060

Parodi appears as Palode in a deed of 973: Lamberto, son of the marquis Ildebrando, sells those lands with others to the priest Roprando — perhaps a sham sale, arranged by the marquis's wife so the property would not pass to his kin. Of the castle on the highest spur almost nothing is left, but the hilltop is still called Reguardia.

In 1033 the place passed to the Parma monastery of Santa Maria di Castiglione; those Benedictines drained the Albedosa valley floor and built the monastery of San Remigio there. The present name dates from 1873, in memory of the centuries under Genoa.
