Bòzzole, Bòssli in Piedmontese, lies on the Alessandria plain along the Po, on the border of the province of Pavia. Its name has several explanations, none conclusive: the shrubs of the box family, the hawthorn, bozolus in Latin, or the barbarian word boza, a puddle. The quartered arms carry a poplar on grassy ground and a wheat plant, with two red fields and a gold pale: the poplar for the plain's vegetation, the wheat for farming.
The river wrote the village's history. The oldest flood remembered is that of 1684, which carried off the church begun in 1559, still without a vault six years after work started; services moved to a chapel, and the first stone of the new parish church was laid in 1719 to a design by the marquis Carlo Gozzani. In the seventeenth century the village turned to Saint Gregory Thaumaturgus, the bishop who by tradition stopped the river Lycus in Pontus with his staff.
