Coniolo

Under Coniolo Basso, the old village, they quarried cement marl; the galleries went too deep and in 1905 the first cracks appeared in the houses. The subsidence lasted until 1922 and eighty-four houses, the church and the castle were lost. The inhabitants took their old homes apart and rebuilt them higher up, where the village stands today.

The town hall museum is named for that: «Coniolo, the village that lived twice». The law of the day let children of nine to thirteen go down the mine. The parish church carries a gable banded in brick with small hanging arches, and behind it the bell tower with its onion cupola.
