Feast of Saint Ambrose
📅 Every year, on 7 December
On 7 December Treville celebrates its patron Saint Ambrose, to whom one of the churches of this small Monferrato town is dedicated.
The name Treville first appears in a document of 1202, by which the marquis Bonifacio I invested the Casale nobleman Anselmo Musso di Paciliano with the fief. The local statutes date from 1303 and are among the oldest in Monferrato. The coat of arms carries a red tower with ghibelline merlons on an azure field, surmounted by three azure points and three gold eight-rayed stars, and below the shield the motto Vigilo. At the end of the seventeenth century the fief was bought by Giacomo Bartolomeo Gozani, whose family later had the palace bearing the village name built in Casale Monferrato.
A church at Treville is mentioned as early as the late thirteenth century, as a dependency of the pieve of San Cassiano, and the dedication to Sant'Ambrogio is attested from the middle of the fourteenth. When the building no longer sufficed, the bishop of Casale advised rebuilding it, and from 1766 the inhabitants taxed themselves to pay for the work. Two of the altarpieces inside are attributed, with some reserve, to Orsola Caccia.
