Ozzano climbs its south hillside up to the castle. Just below the park is the parish church of San Salvatore, in brick, its buttresses ending in pinnacles; the bell tower stands apart, set against a wall of tuff and taken into the wall of the hanging gardens. The forecourt, paved with river pebbles in geometric patterns, looks over the roofs.
Down on the flat, Lavello grew in the nineteenth century around lime and cement: in the Fontanola valley the Laurenta gallery still opens, 2721 metres, the chief mine of the Casalese. Giovanni Bianco left all he owned to the comune in 1494, for the village poor.
