Olivola

Province: Alessandria · Region: Piedmont · Population: 123 · Postal code: 15030

Olivola, Aulìvola in Piedmontese, stands on a hill in the Lower Monferrato, above the valley of the Rotaldo stream. It belonged to the marquises of Monferrato and followed their fortunes, later passing in fief to the Celoria, the Ferraris and others, and finally becoming a county of the Candiani and Curioni Guazzi, lords also of Ottiglio. In 1928 the comune was abolished and merged with neighbouring Frassinello as Frassinello Olivola, regaining its independence only after the Second World War.

The arms are azure, with a silver horse rearing on its hind legs, accompanied in the dexter chief canton by a black eagle with wings displayed. The old centre includes the parish church of San Pietro and its Romanesque bell tower.
