The patron saint of Tortona is Saint Marcianus, celebrated on 6 March.
The town's «official» feast, however, is that of the Holy Cross, generally celebrated on the second Sunday of May, recalling the presence of a relic of the Cross kept in the Duomo. Also deeply felt is the feast of Our Lady of the Guard, on 29 August, which enlivens the streets of the San Bernardino district around the sanctuary dedicated to her. The town also holds the Castle of Tortona and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Guard.
