Cassinasco

Province: Asti · Region: Piedmont · Population: 590 · Postal code: 14050

Only the tower of the medieval castle is still standing: the rest went in the sack and fire of 1615, the work of Savoy troops in the war over the succession of Monferrato. The council put that tower on its coat of arms: the one thing left from those years.

It stands above a stone retaining wall holding back the edge of the hill: square, roofless, its courses of pale stone cut halfway up by a band of red brick, beam holes still open in the masonry. The village also has the sanctuary of Nostra Signora delle Grazie e degli Alpini, of the early twentieth century.
