Feast of Saint Simon
📅 Every year, on 28 October
On 28 October Bubbio celebrates its patron Saint Simon; the town also preserves the Santuario dei Caffi.
The name Bubbio comes from the Latin bivium, a fork in the road: the village sits where the Roman roads between the Bormida valley and the Asti country met. Its layout has held, with the old houses lined along Via Maestra, a fourteenth-century street running from the castle to the parish church, and lanes, arches and stairways around it.
The motto, Dulcia promam — let sweet things come out of me — points to the white grape: this is Moscato country. The castle, much rebuilt and altered, closes one end of Via Maestra and is now private, run as a hotel and restaurant.
