Feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot
📅 Every year, on 17 January
On 17 January Loazzolo celebrates its patron Saint Anthony the Abbot, to whom the town's church is dedicated.
On the arms of Loazzolo a wolf stands in the foreground, turned to the horizon, before a river between two banks: it recalls the old name of the village, Lupatiolum, the place where wolves run loose. The comune lies in the Langhe hills of Asti above the lower Valle Bormida, which the Bormida di Millesimo crosses at the hamlet of Quartino; from the 200 metres of Quartino to the 612 of Regione Santa Libera, the drop is enough to count it among the province's mountain comuni.
The village name is also a wine. Loazzolo is a sweet passito with a controlled designation of origin whose growing area lies entirely here, in under two hectares of dedicated vineyard. It uses Moscato bianco grapes picked in successive passes and dried, with noble rot allowed to take hold, on the vine or on racks; all cellar work must happen inside the comune, and the wine ages two years, at least six months in cask.
