Coggiola

Province: Biella · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,996 · Postal code: 13863

The village was called Cozola, and earlier Codiola. As Cozola it first appears in the 1152 document by which Frederick Barbarossa granted the bishop of Vercelli several places nearby. In 1306 the men of Fra Dolcino burned it with other centres around; the Alciati, nobles of Vercelli, later raised it again.

Five bees stand on the coat of arms: the industry they signal was perhaps meant to honour the tenacity of the valley people and their work in textiles, herding and woodland. In 1911 Fila was founded here, the sportswear brand. Above the houses stand the sanctuaries of Cavallero and Moglietti.
