Feast of Saint Martin
📅 Every year, on 11 November
On 11 November Gifflenga celebrates its patron Saint Martin, to whom the parish church is dedicated.
Biella is one of Italy's newest provinces, drawn only in 1992 in the northern corner of Piedmont, with the Aosta Valley along its western edge and the Turin and Vercelli areas closing it in elsewhere. Some 913 square kilometres, 74 municipalities, 182,192 residents: a small, tight territory in which the city of Biella alone accounts for nearly a quarter of the population, while the smallest village on the list has 87 people.
After Biella and its 43,800 inhabitants the ranking drops away fast — Cossato under 15,000, Valdilana just above 12,000, Candelo below 8,000. There is no second city to balance the capital, and that shapes a visit here: short moves between neighbouring towns rather than one base worth a week.
