Brossasco lies in the lower Valle Varaita, where the Gilba joins the Varaita. Its arms are unlike any others in the valley: two crescent moons and two Moors' heads. Many read in them the origin of the village, founded by Saracens who stayed after their defeat; the grant of 998 from Otto III to bishop Amizzone of Turin may be the first document to name the valley.
Of the castle over the walled village, raised in the eleventh century, little is left. Sant'Andrea, the parish church, is seen from afar: a gabled front with painted pilasters and a carved stone doorway, and beside it the grey bell tower, its clock below the belfry arches.
