Martiniana Po

Province: Cuneo · Region: Piedmont · Population: 781 · Postal code: 12030

Martiniana Po lies in the lower Po valley, in the province of Cuneo; Piedmontese calls it Martinian-a, Occitan Martinhana. What the village has of its own are the pyropes, ovoid geological formations typical of the place: a museum gathers and explains them, and the geological site where they come to light is here.

The parish church, dedicated to Sant'Andrea Apostolo, is eighteenth-century but was raised on the ruins of a medieval building; inside are a marble font and frescoes in the presbytery. The saint stands in a niche between the pilasters, and a plaque above the door carries his name. There is also Palazzo Filippa, a baroque noble house.
