Feast of Saint John the Baptist
📅 Every year, on 24 June
On 24 June Bolzano Novarese, a municipality of 1,176 inhabitants in the province of Novara, celebrates its patron Saint John the Baptist.
Bolzano Novarese did not begin where it stands now: it comes from Ingravo, a settlement about which little is known, whose people moved down the valley, nobody knows why. Of that older seat the church of San Martino remains, rural Romanesque, of the twelfth century, with frescoes largely from the Cagnola workshop: today it sits inside the cemetery. The village belonged to the Riviera di San Giulio, a prince-bishopric, and between 1928 and 1947 it was absorbed into Gozzano.
The parish church of San Giovanni stands at the top of a stairway: a three-arched porch, the letters DOM under the gable, a stone bell tower with a slate spire.
